Tuck-it Thursdays to wow McGregor with epic car show

By now, most car clubs and people involved in the Western Cape car scene will have heard about an event happening in McGregor later this month.

The Tuck-it Thursday car club out in Robertson will host ‘The Suburbs’ in the small town on 25 February, but a chat with organiser Daniëll Adendorff reveals that it is about a lot more than just modified cars entertaining the crowds.

Growing up in Robertson and later working for the Department of Health in McGregor, Daniëll always had it in him to serve his communities. His activities first revolved around his hometown, but later branched out to the town he serves in a professional capacity.

But of late, it was important for the Tuck-it Thursdays frontman to merge his passions for communities and cars, which is why this group of car enthusiasts is serving the McGregor community for a second time in a way they know best: with their cars!

Why McGregor?

Daniëll explains that some of the members in the Tuck-it Thursdays group are from McGregor, and they too wanted to do something special for the community. That’s why, in 2022, they had several outreach programs in the town, serving the community through stationary drives, sanitary drives, and blanket drivers for old-age homes.

But it was that first McGregor event that really surprised them, because the turnout was much bigger than they expected.

“We went to McGregor for a park-off, and it was like Jesus came from heaven,” Daniëll explains.

“Kids were coming from far and wide because they heard that there are cars coming to McGregor. We weren’t revving, but the kids went ballistic when they saw all the cars.”

This excitement is what fueled Daniëll and his team to host another show in McGregor, with McGregor Primary agreeing that the school grounds can be the venue.

What ‘The Suburbs’ will offer

With some sponsors coming on board and the primary school planning to man several food stalls on the day, Daniëll and his team are excited to get the show off the ground. But, he says, all proceeds will go to the school.

Daniëll explains that a fundraiser last year for a Robertson primary school brought in more than R15 000, with the proceeds going towards acquiring rugby jerseys for all four of the school’s teams. And it is this type of excitement he knows will be to the benefit of McGregor Primary, too.

“’The Suburbs’ will have four divisions car owners can take part in – Low Limbo, Best Static, Best Wheels, and Best Show and Shine,” Daniëll explains.

“Because we are in a residential area, we are respecting the law by not having a rev-off. Hopefully next year we can host the event at a venue that will allow this.”

The McGregor event will be judged by Curt Stevens, Eugene Classen, and Angelo Torode, and entry is R20 per adult and R10 for children. To participate, it is R50 per entry per division.
