New BMW X3: A fresh take on a versatile SUV

The new BMW X3 stands out with its enhanced sporting appeal, distinct design, and versatile functionality – bound to make it an excellent choice for daily use, leisure activities, and long trips.

This fourth-generation model introduces a modern design language, superior interior materials, and advanced technology, setting a new standard in the premium midsize SUV segment.

The exterior of the new BMW X3 features a more imposing presence with its longer and wider dimensions. The vehicle measures 4 755mm in length, 1 920mm in width, and 1 660mm in height. The large kidney grille, now with vertical and diagonal bars and optional Iconic Glow contour lighting, gives the SUV a confident look.

The new LED headlights feature L-shaped light sources for daytime driving lights, side lights, and turn signal indicators. At the rear, the flared wheel arches and modern T-shaped tail lights enhance its sporty silhouette.

Spacious cabin

Inside, the new BMW X3 offers a blend of robust functionality and premium ambience. The cabin features a BMW Curved Display, BMW Interaction Bar, and a new gear selector lever. The interior is spacious, with load space ranging from 570 to 1 700 liters (or 460 to 1 600 liters for the 30e xDrive plug-in hybrid).

The SUV comes standard with electrically adjustable and heated sports seats made from Econeer, a material that incorporates secondary materials. Optional upholstery includes Veganza and BMW Individual Merino leather.

The new BMW X3 is equipped with the latest BMW iDrive with QuickSelect, based on BMW Operating System 9. This system offers intuitive control through touch and voice commands. The SUV also includes a wide range of semi-automated driving and parking systems as standard, such as front collision warning, lane departure warning, and speed limit information.

Optional features include a Steering and Lane Control Assistant, automatic Speed Limit Assist, and Parking Assistant Professional, which allows control of parking and manoeuvres via a smartphone.

Engine and Performance Options

The new BMW X3 offers a variety of powertrains, including petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options. The plug-in hybrid BMW X3 30e xDrive combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, producing up to 220kW. This model achieves an electric range of 81-90km in the WLTP cycle and supports AC charging at 11kW.

For those seeking performance, the BMW X3 M50 xDrive features a 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder petrol engine with 48V mild hybrid technology, generating 293kW. This model accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds. It also includes M Sport suspension, 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, and an M Sport differential for enhanced agility and handling precision.

The BMW X3 20d xDrive, powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, delivers 145kW and completes the 0 to 100km/h sprint in 7.7 seconds. All engines are paired with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system, ensuring efficient power delivery and dynamic performance.

Enhanced Driving Dynamics and Comfort

The new BMW X3 boasts improved agility, cornering stability, and long-distance comfort. The vehicle’s lower weight and increased rigidity, along with modifications to the chassis and control systems, contribute to its superior driving dynamics. Optional adaptive suspension and M Sport packages further enhance the SUV’s sporty performance while maintaining ride comfort.

The new BMW X3 will be produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the USA and Plant Rosslyn in South Africa, with a focus on conserving resources and circularity. It is set to launch in the South African market in the fourth quarter of 2024, continuing the success story of the BMW X3, which has been a popular model since its debut 20 years ago.
