Why Carlos Sainz waited two years for custom Ferrari 812 Competizione

Driver for the Ferrari Formula 1 team, Carlos Sainz Jr., recently took delivery of a one-of-a-kind 812 Competizione. Well, it’s not exactly a one-of model, but the car has been tailored to the Spaniard’s tastes and likes – this after waiting almost two years for the project to be completed.

In Ferrari’s world, this is nothing new that owners wait for their cars – if they opted for the tailor program. Each detail is meticulously added, and the craftsmanship on these vehicles are almost without peer.

According to Ferrari’s social media, this is the first Ferrari Carlos owns. And if we’re honest, he made a pretty smart choice.

The Ferrari 812 is powered by a 6.5-litre V12 petrol engine, pushing out 610kW and 692Nm. The naturally aspirated engine screams to a heady 9 500rpm, with maximum power available at a hair-raising 9 250rpm.

The rear-wheel drive exotic can clear 0-100km/h in 2.85 seconds, while the top speed is rated at 340km/h. Coming in at 1 487kg, the Competizione weighs 38kg less than the SuperFast it’s based on.

Sainz said on his official Instagram account: “The wait is over! I’m so excited to show you my first road car. This Ferrari 812 Competizione is like a dream come true!”

The 812 Competizione was launched in South Africa in 2021, with a price tag of more than R8.5 million.
