Ulterio Motiv Upgrades Land Cruiser 79’s Brakes

Ulterio Motiv, the specialist in six-wheel conversions, has unveiled a range of significant upgrades for the four-wheel Toyota Land Cruiser 79. A favourite among off-road enthusiasts, farmers, and those who require a rugged workhorse, the Land Cruiser 79 is often tasked with towing heavy loads or navigating tough terrain.

However, many owners are familiar with the effort required to bring this heavy-duty vehicle to a stop, particularly when it’s fully loaded or pulling a caravan. Ulterio Motiv’s latest offerings aim to make braking easier and safer.

One of the key upgrades is the hydraulic brake booster, which reduces the force required on the pedal by harnessing pressure from the power-steering pump. This system, which includes the hydraulic actuator and connecting pipes, can be installed within a day and ensures that even when carrying heavy loads, the driver can stop the vehicle with ease.

Complementing this upgrade is a set of braided brake hoses, which replace the standard rubber units. Much like those used in high-performance cars, braided hoses provide improved heat resistance and durability while reducing expansion under pressure. This translates to a firmer and more responsive brake pedal. These hoses not only enhance braking performance but also boast a rugged, high-quality look that’s sure to stand out at any Land Cruiser gathering.

For those pushing their Land Cruiser to its limits, Ulterio Motiv also offers a GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) upgrade. Overlanding and camping enthusiasts often find themselves exceeding the standard weight limits once they’ve packed all their equipment, food, water, and passengers. With this upgrade, the Land Cruiser’s legal payload capacity increases to 4 500 kg, provided the driver holds a C1 licence. Importantly, the upgrade is fully registered with the traffic department, and the standard powertrain remains untouched.

These improvements can be applied to both the latest 79-series models and older versions. Owners can choose to enhance braking performance without opting for the full GVM upgrade, ensuring a safer and more confidence-inspiring driving experience.

Pricing for these upgrades is as follows:

  • Hydraulic brake booster: R18 950 (ex. VAT)
  • Braided hose kit: R10 950 (ex. VAT)
  • GVM upgrade: R32 950 (ex. VAT, includes brake booster and braided hoses)
