Back in the game! New Hyundai i20 now in SA

The new Hyundai i20 has arrived in South Africa, bringing a fresh design and a range of options that make it a versatile choice in the competitive hatchback segment, where it holds a notable 10% market share.

Available in three different trim levels – Premium, Executive, and the sporty N Line – the i20 offers a variety of engine and transmission combinations. From the practical 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre engines in the Premium and Executive models to the turbocharged performance of the N Line, there’s something for every driver.

According to Stanley Anderson, Sales and Operations Director at Hyundai Automotive South Africa: “The Hyundai i20 has been a solid competitor over the years in the hatchback market segment. It is a car for many tastes and budgets and offers a comprehensive motoring package, even at its basic trim level.

“We know that it is also a popular vehicle for fleet buyers, who will be attracted by the excellent fuel efficiency of the 1.2- and 1.4-litre petrol engines in the Premium and Executive variants, while the sporty character of the i20 N Line derivative with its powerful turbo-engine occupies a special place in the range.”

The N Line adds a sporty edge to the line-up.

Hyundai i20 Range

The i20 Premium starts with either a 1.2-litre engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 1.4-litre engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Executive models follow a similar setup, with a focus on efficiency and practicality. The N Line, at the top of the range, features a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine and a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission, offering a more spirited driving experience.

Design-wise, the new i20 sports a refreshed look with an updated front bumper, a glossy black grille, and redesigned taillights. The Executive and N Line models come with stylish 16-inch alloy wheels, while the Premium variants feature 15-inch steel wheels. Despite its compact size, the i20 provides ample interior space and a 311 L boot.

Inside, the i20 is designed with comfort and convenience in mind. The Premium and Executive models come with a mix of cloth and artificial leather seats, while the N Line features exclusive artificial leather. All models include a manual tilt and telescopic steering column, manual or automatic air conditioning, and a digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system includes an 8-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

It also comes with additional safety features like Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).

Under the hood, the i20 is powered by Hyundai’s reliable 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines, delivering a good balance of power and fuel efficiency. The N Line’s turbocharged engine provides a more dynamic driving experience, complemented by a firm suspension setup that enhances handling and grip.

Safety is a priority in the i20, with all models featuring seat belts, ISOFIX child seat attachments, airbags, and an Advanced Braking System. The N Line also includes side and curtain airbags, as well as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) for added peace of mind.
