V8 beasts: We Buy Cars’ 3 most expensive SUVs

We Buy Cars, South Africa’s largest car dealership, has no shortage of vehicles, all ranging from the low to high-end side of the market.

Here are the three most expensive SUVs listed on the website.

1. 2023 Land Rover Defender 90 V8 Carpathian Edition

This 2023 model is listed for R2 032 900, with the finance estimated at around R37 329 per month. The mileage is 2 140km.

It is powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine, offering 386kW and 625Nm. With an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels, this SUV leaps from 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds and onto a top speed of 240km/h.

Not bad for a 2 546kg kerb weight.

Expectedly, the Defender is endowed with all of Land Rover’s off-road prowess and expertise, with the bonus of being a performance hound!

There is also a Defender 110 listed on the website for R1 997 900.

2. 2021 Audi SQ8 TDI Quattro

The SQ8 TDI Quattro was a standout vehicle for Audi when launched in South Africa several years ago, and it was an all-round impressive car. Still is!

Apart from the sublime ride quality, the highlight was the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine that churns out 320kW and 900Nm. And all of that torque is available at a lowly 1 250rpm! The quattro system receives all this power from an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Audi claims a fuel return of 7.8-litres/100km for this high-performance diesel SUV, resulting in a theoretical driving range of 1 090km on the 85L fuel tank.

Priced at R1 852 900, this SUV demands an estimated monthly installment of R34 055. We Buy Cars lists the mileage at 120km.

3. 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC+

The GLS 63 AMG may come in at R1 792 900, but We Buy Cars has added a little easter egg up this SUV’s sleeve: a Prime Less 2% interest rate! It translates to an estimated monthly instalment of R32 964 per month.

Endowed with a 4.0-litre V8 turbocharged petrol engine, the 450kW and 850Nm allow this true performance SUV to clear the 0-100km/h run in a mere 4.2 seconds! And thanks to the AWD system that’s linked to a nine-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the top speed is a heady 250km/h.

The SUV is bold and imposing, creating a sense of dominance when cruising on the road.

The indicated mileage on this SUV is 29 224km.
