It’s a 6×4! Two Extra Wheels For Your Ford Ranger

Ulterio Motiv, the newly launched sister company of SVI Engineering, has introduced a bold new product that redefines heavy-duty bakkies in South Africa. Based on the immensely popular Ford Ranger, the Ford Ranger 6×4 combines increased payload capacity with the renowned comfort and luxury of Ford’s trusted model line-up.

This innovative bakkie builds on Ulterio Motiv’s reputation for rugged modifications, following in the footsteps of their Toyota Land Cruiser 6×4 and 6×6 conversions. Designed to conquer extreme terrains while carrying heavy loads, the Ford Ranger 6×4 promises versatility for industries and adventurers alike.

Enhanced Capability

At the heart of the Ford Ranger 6×4 conversion lies a chassis engineered for strength and reliability. The conversion increases the vehicle’s maximum Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) to an impressive 4 500 kg, enabling a payload capacity exceeding 2 000 kg, depending on the model. However, drivers will require a C1 (or old Code 10) licence to operate the modified bakkie.

Ulterio Motiv offers this conversion as a blank canvas, allowing users to customize the vehicle to suit their specific needs. Whether it’s a specialized loading bin, an emergency response unit, or a luxurious camper setup, the possibilities are virtually endless. For those needing an immediate solution, Ulterio Motiv also manufactures a bespoke drop-side load bin with interior dimensions of 1.6 meters in width and 2.5 meters in length.

Innovative Design and Engineering

The transformation involves extending the standard Ford Ranger chassis to accommodate a third, non-driven axle. This innovative bogie suspension system distributes the rear load between the third and middle axles, with the middle axle bearing 60% of the weight. This configuration optimizes traction and grip, especially for the driven wheels, enhancing off-road capabilities.

Despite the addition of the third axle, the Ford Ranger’s original drivetrain, 4×4 system, and differential lock remain intact. To ensure reliable braking, the third axle features a disc-brake system integrated with the Ranger’s factory ABS, further enhancing safety.

Another advantage is compatibility: Ulterio Motiv can modify any current-generation Ford Ranger 4×4 model, including single-, extended-, and double-cab variants, offering unmatched flexibility for a wide range of applications.

The conversion costs R265 000 (excluding VAT), excluding the base vehicle and optional extras like the drop-side load bin. Ulterio Motiv requires a build time of six weeks to deliver the finished product.

A Game-Changer in Utility

By retaining the luxury and safety features of the original Ranger while dramatically increasing its utility, the 6×4 is poised to appeal to a diverse audience – from businesses seeking robust workhorses to off-road enthusiasts dreaming of ultimate adventure vehicles.

With its pioneering design and unmatched versatility, the Ford Ranger 6×4 proves that South Africa’s bakkie culture is not only alive and well but also evolving in exciting new directions.
