New Mitsubishi Triton launches in South Africa

The all-new Mitsubishi Triton is here and this is what South Africans can expect from the Japanese bakkie.

Exterior Design

The new Mitsubishi Triton adopts a bold and rugged look, reflecting its utilitarian roots with modern styling. The front incorporates Mitsubishi’s “Dynamic Shield” design, featuring a three-dimensional grille, LED headlights, and hawk-eye-inspired daytime running lights.

Its broader stance and robust fender panels emphasize strength, while aerodynamic tweaks, including a reshaped cabin and rear spoiler, enhance efficiency. T-shaped taillights at the rear add width and durability to its appearance.

Interior Updates

Inside, the Triton balances functionality with comfort. The cabin is more spacious, featuring premium materials and better noise insulation. An eight-inch infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while a seven-inch digital driver’s display provides clear vehicle information.

The seats have improved ergonomics, offering better support and visibility. Added conveniences include ample storage, cup holders for large containers, and enhanced ingress/egress with wider door openings.

Powertrain

The Triton is powered by two diesel engine options. A new 4N16 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine delivers 135 kW and 430 Nm, paired with either a six-speed automatic or manual gearbox. Entry-level GL models feature a 2.4-liter engine with 81 kW and 200 Nm, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission.

The Triton’s all-new chassis and suspension provide improved handling, comfort, and durability across various terrains. Select derivatives include Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system, offering enhanced off-road capability with multiple drive modes.
